I've used it a few times in the past and it wasn't too difficult to use, but unless you know how to speak Japanese then you might struggle to put something together unless it's a cover of another song.

In respects to how it works, you have to manually specify the sound you want by typing in the Japanese phonetic sound. Then you alter the pitch and tone on a big graph type interface much like on fruity loops when your selecting what key press on say, a piano. It's all simple enough to use really, just takes some practice.

There is a pirate version called Pocaloid which is the version I had, it had all the voice packs and what not. There some English language ones as well, but they aren't as refined as their Japanese counterparts.
