Clannad/Afterstory

~Clannad~

The third Key / Visual Art's animated project from Kyoto Animation, Clannad mostly discards the magical aspects of Kanon and Air for a more down to Earth story about a boy, a girl, and the numerous people they encounter in both school and outside of it.

At the same time, it's also about family, as every character's arc in this series revolves around their family members in some form (and even some of the side characters do as well). Whereas Air and Kanon felt like separate stories with a theme that loosely tied the cast together, Clannad has no such disjointed feeling, and is part of the reason that I think this is (arguably) the best written of the three Key animated adaptions by Kyoto Animation to date.

Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year high school student who doesn't like school and lives with his father (whom he fights with often, and is responsible for paralyzing once of his arms). One morning on his way to school he meets a girl named Nagisa Furukawa. Out for a year due to being sick, she feels awkward and alone at school as her friends have since moved on. Over time she opens up to Tomoya and finds herself spending more time with him, changing him in the process.

Has anyone seen this one/two ^^?

-Who's your favorite character and why?
-Who can you relate to the most?
-Who would you choose out of the girls?
-What did you think of the overall series?
-Anything else?

NOTE: PLEASE SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE SERIES

I have seen both of them, many times. I can't get enough of the storyor the characters.

-My favourite character would be Akio Furukawa. The reason I like him? He's a well composed character, laid back and humourous but isn't insensitive. Despite his lesser role, he always stands out.

-I can probably relate most to Tomoya. I hate my parents and can't stand being in the house. I'm also something of a slacker because of my work ethic and have minimal interest in anything. I also like helping people a lot, I don;'t do anything for rewards.

-If I had too, then Kyou would be my choice. I find her personality fascinating, suits since I like those sorts of women.

-I think this is probably the best piece of art I have ever witnessed. I've not come across a story in any media that has moved me emotionally like Clannad.

-I do also have the VN, which is rather good. Anybody who hasn't played it should acquire it somehow...

Clannad is one of my favorite anime! :mew: All of the characters are good, except maybe Nagisa. And yet she gets to be the female lead. =/

I've played part of the VN, but I still haven't finished it yet. D:

What's After Story like?

I only saw about 1/4 of the first season and then stopped due to lack of interest lol.

Crescent... You seem to have missed the best section.
I like ALL the Clannad, but most people tend to only like the second.

And why does everyone hate on Nagisa?

CrescentOfLight 04-11-2012 11:33 PM

Yeah

LOL.

It just never caught my attention.

Sorry Whyt.

QWhyt Lindow: I guess because even though she's the main character, she's a little plain? I dunno.. She doesn't really stand out too too much compared to the others I guess? I'm not sure lol

I love Nagisa.. She's just so lovable and her gullible-ness.. I guess she would be the one I'm most like.. To an extent xD

Whyt Lindow 07-26-2012 12:22 PM

You can easily say that Nagisa is a little plain but that's what makes the anime special.
I don't want to see extraordinary characters taking the main role all the time.

The very thing that made Nagisa's special was that she could be real.

I don't think Clannad would have been half as special as what it was if Nagisa wasn't the lead character and I think Key and Kyoto animation knew that.
