My dad always tries to correct me when I say something like "oh my god." Immediately after I say God he says "Goodness."
It's actually quite infuriating and controlling. I never correct myself though, I'm not his puppet.
I don't use the term to be insensitive or as a jab at religion. It's just a phrase.
I'd be more willing to refrain from using around him if he wasn't manipulative. Not to mention, he's not even devoutly religious. He's never been, he only uses it for his own convenience.
